It may have been the irresistible siren song of a cracking bat at Fenway Park that drew Editor SUSIE KOSTARAS back to her hometown post-college, but she did, to launch fashion-centric site Racked Boston. When she’s not writing up the best new lip gloss colors, chatting it up with her dog, or practicing her pigeon pose in yoga class, she’s on the Beantown beat in some pretty fabulous shoes (brick sidewalks and rainy spring months be damned). From Red Sox ready sneaks, to the ideal sandals for a weekend jaunt to the Cape, Racked Boston Editor Susie Kostaras shares the 10 pairs she thinks every Bostonian (and visitor) should own.

1. Calvin Klein Verla Chunky Heel

A block heel is perfect for Boston’s uneven brick sidewalks and long strolls from say, new restaurants in Fort Point to the ICA galleries. Speaking of contemporary art, aren’t these a masterpiece? The poppy color blocking and sturdy design make this a great party shoe.

2. Keds Women’s Champion Red Canvas Sneaker

Batter up! Games are in full swing over at Fenway, and you need a comfy, no-frills shoe to watch the game. These are the perfect red to show Sox pride, and if your bleacher pals spill beer on ‘em, just throw these babies in the wash.

3. Ankle-Wrap Lizard Flat Sandal

Forget toting flip flops to change into your work-appropriate footwear for the T ride home. These flat sandals are prim and professional for casual Friday.

4. Sam Edelman Petty Ankle Boot

It’s not summer yet, so you still need that in-between season shoe to carry those toes through the sporadic 50 degree day in May (okay, that’s every day). Do it with this ankle bootie in a versatile tan suede.

5. Belle by Sigerson Morrison Beetle High Heel

This office friendly bootie will travel beautifully to after-hours drinks with friends. It’s sexy without showing any toe cleavage.

6. Dolce Vita Macao Tasseled Loafer

You need a weekend shoe that goes from brunch, to the boutiques, to BJ’s; this loafer will do the trick with its chartreuse tone and adorable tassels.

7. alice + olivia Paola Sandals

Meet your new favorite occasion sandal. This strappy beauty in a grassy hue makes a statement with any LBD, LWD, a short suit…you name it. Plus the gold accents and reptile embossing elevate it to luxury status.

8. Hunter Original Tall Gloss Rainboot—In Lagoon

We know from past experience: It will rain all April, May, and maybe even June. Might as well stand out from the rest of the Hunter pack in a vibrant teal green, right?

9. Alexander Wang Johanna Sandal

There’s a party shoe, and then there’s this party shoe. Lizard textures are everywhere this season, and Wang’s rendition is fierce. Plenty of ankle support will keep you standing all night long as onlookers swoon.

10. Mel by Melissa Macadamia

This nude sandal goes from beach to boardwalk with its soft, waterproof jelly mold and street-smart styling. Since it’s so lightweight, you can easily carry it on any weekend Cape trip.

We asked three fab stylists how they’d rock this refreshingly unique but versatile dress. Here, Elise Loehnen, Editor-in-Chief of Beso.com shares her vision for daytime. Enjoy and have fun styling your own!
I’m not really comfortable unless I’m wearing at least three layers, which is a boon, because even though I live and work in Los Angeles, my office is preternaturally arctic. I even have a space heater in my office.
Since this dress is strapless, I’ll be wearing it layered over a t-shirt, just to make it a bit more covered up (I work at a tech company, so I’m not sure what all the engineers would make of a strapless gown at the office). Then, to make it a bit more polished and professional, I can’t resist adding a schoolboy blazer, which absolutely has to be cuffed, and then pushed up the sleeve. There’s a lot going on with the dress so I’d resist the siren song of colorful shoes and go for a pair of neutral platform heels, and then a wristful of assorted bracelets (the more the merrier, really).
